overpriced drink or cheap vase?

Picture 1.png pom12.jpg

I’m a bit of a bottled ice tea connoisseur, constantly being lured in by new beverages at the local deli (Ito En’s Teas’ Tea remains my favorite). So I was particularly intrigued the other day when I spotted Pom’s new tea on the shelf. The tea comes in four flavors, each with a small amount of pomegranate juice mixed in. But who cares about that, or its supposed antioxidants. What made me lay down $3.50 for the drink was the re-usable glass. It’s a nice hefty weight and will be great for homemade ice tea that costs about one cent a glass to make. I immediately put it to use with some freshly cut daffodils, which are happily in bloom despite the chilly temps outside. They cost $3.50 for ten and somehow made me feel better for spending so much on iced tea. Kinda like when I drink cheap red wine out of my old Diptyque candle holders. — Angela M.

As far as the glass goes, I am so glad that this is reusable, and not just a reuse the same water bottle until its kind of gross way! In a real, I want to use this in my kitchen, and in my home kind of way! Innovative recycling really. Kudos tp POM! The Daffodils look fab in it!!

(The great thing about the burbs is Trader Joes! The Daffs are .99 cents for 10. Are there any near you guys??)

Wow – you got a deal! I paid $4.50 for that POM drink in Manhattan! I wasn’t thrilled with the flavor but I do admit that I bought it for the glass. I use it as my drinking glass at work!

I love using bottles for vases. Jones Soda has great bottles with black and white, quirky pictures on them. The pictures are selected from submissions that customers send in. Their web site is http://www.jonessoda.com/. Enjoy!

The fact that the bottle can have a second life is really appealing to me. I hate the idea of our contemporary consumption world where the we discard so much materials in the landfills. Designers should really consider designing packaging that can either be re-used or recycled. They should also pay particular attention to what packaging materials they use, and minimize the whole packaging amount.

Very funny, I just purchased the same tea at Whole Foods, because I thought it would make a perfect vase, and if you want the POM part gone you can simplly use the back side of a sponge….

    great site…

Hi Susan — thanks for the tip. We tried to SAND off the logo on one glass and sort of ruined it. You got yours off with sponge-scrub? Hmmmm….
