11 days ’til tax day: colored pencils

Why, oh, why do we not have Muji stores in the U.S.? We’ve asked ourselves this many times, especially after trips to London where we can stock up the brand’s amazingly simple, practical, inexpensive and beautifully designed essentials. Luckily, we can get a little fix now and then thanks to the Moma Design Store (though their selection is not nearly wide enough). For the office, you can pick up a few of their cloudy plastic basics, including accordion files, business card holders and the like. But for a treat pick up the colored pencils set — $18 for 36 pencils in a recycled cardboard storage tube. Choose a signature color of the month and give your work a little flair.

I wouldn’t be too depressed about not having Muji in the States. As an American living in London, I was originally quite excited about the store. But after a few purchases, I discovered the quality of the products was often not terribly good :(

[...] Our favorite, everyday minimalist design company, Muji, is having a whopper of a contest this summer. Anyone in the world can enter to win the Muji Award International Design Competition, by submitting his or her idea for a Muji product. We have lamented before about the lack of Muji stores in the U.S., but perhaps having an American steal this crown would speed things up! Deadline is August 31st and the winner will be announced in Milan. Click here for more info. And visit the Moma Store to get your hands on some Muji goodies in the meantime. [...]

I discovered Muji when I was leaving in Paris. After a few years in the US we moved to Singapore and…there are at least 2 big Muji stores!
I Checked their website to see if they have a store in the US (they still don’t) but I found out that you can order things online :-)
