blogwatch: this week in clicking

This week’s journey around the blogosphere was an amazingly helpful and productive one. Our friend Monica, who recently began writing for Variety’s Stylephile blog pointed out a handy kitchen tool that peels the skin off of garlic for you. Design*Sponge’s Spring Spruce Up Contest proved to be most fruitful indeed, with ideas on perking up an Ikea stool and re-imaging an old cupboard. Decor8 reminded us that we really need to spend some time surfing for the perfect table lamp. She got us started with a few chic cheapies from Wal-Mart. (Come back on Monday to see the ones we’ve been eyeing elsewhere.) The lovely Vickie Howell offers up a cute and easy knitting idea, one that’s for us instead of the kiddies: Check out her kick ass-cot. And Happy Mundane asked if we had any bright ideas on bottles to put mouthwash in. We did a little searching over at one of our favorite vintage sites, Ruby Lane, and found this green decanter (above) for only $30. If you have any suggestions, I’m sure HM would love to hear them.

Mouthwash ideas: My mom and Grandma use Listerine, and hate the way the bottles look too. So they bought some pretty glass soap dispensers. A matching water glass and a few pumps on the dispenser and you have something pretty and useful!
I have old sparkling cider (or you could use wine bottles as well) sitting on the counter. After washing and peeling the label (you could keep it I guess) I made my own label and glued it on with white glue. To water proof the label I used the side of a block of parafin and coated the label well with the wax. It’s clear and water repellent. I just pour the mouth wash in and put a wine bottle stopper in the top.
Prior to the bottle I used decorative oil decanters.
Hope this helps.
I’ve gotten a purple decanter at a Burlington Coat Factory for about $8 a while back. You can search Ross or Marshall’s for similar items!
