checkin’ out the goodies at Z Gallerie

I was walking home from my regular Sunday afternoon acupuncture appointment when I decided to check out the new Z Gallerie store on lower Broadway (443 Broadway at Grand St., to be exact). It just opened a month ago, their first brick and mortar store in New York (there’s one in LA and they have a fantastic web site). Inside, the two stories are chock-full of great finds for your home, and there’s a heavy Asian vibe going on — Buddha is everywhere! I snatched up a beautifully simple bud vase for a wedding gift, where a “superior” present is always preferred. I know my cousin Dan, a naturalist at heart, will love Untamed by Steve Bloom, one of the many beautiful coffee table books peppered around the store. (It reminds me of my favorite movie of 2005: Grizzly Man, a must-see on DVD!) And I found the perfect doormat to replace one that got stolen a few months ago. I have been vacillating between “Go Away” and “Rental Sweet Rental” but when I saw this one and I knew it should come home to Owen Meany, my grumpy loveable bulldog who hates puppies. — Allison R.
