shopping update: the winning lamp

newlamp.jpg

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about my hunt for a pair of gourd-shaped lamps. My head was spinning from all the choices, not only the ones that I had found, but a few from the comments as well. On whim the other day, we popped into a Target on the way out of town, and found a lamp that we couldn’t pass it up: A pewter coated ceramic base with a linen fabric shade. It looks perfect, but the price was even prettier: The base was only $20; the shade $10.

P.S. I love this Target lamp and the price is perfect

Bigger Target lamps kind of bum me out… we have some in the living room. Their sockets are a little loose, and the bulbs have to be tightened constantly (every few days), otherwise they flicker in and out. No one in my house is in complete agreement as to whether or not this is a fire hazard. So I would, before buying a large Target lamp, check the sockets carefully. (So sad that they are clearancing out the white gourd lamps with the nightlights in the base!)

We also once had a Medusa-style lamp from the Todd Oldham line, the pole of which broke off of the base, in the end.

But that is one swanky lamp you have there, and I can but assume that it will give you many years of happy service.

And the bedside lamps I’ve purchased there have been totally reliable.
