want it now: penguin deck chair

Browsing through the June issue of the British mag Living Etc., I was tickled by this literary themed deck chair from Art Meets Matter. Printed with Penguin Classic covers, like this one from Katherine Mansfield, A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf, or for when you’re feeling really lazy, The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler, it’s the perfect chair to lounge away a summer day, under a tree reading a book. Unfortunately, the site doesn’t sell them to the U.S. just yet — though it will be adding more countries soon. Perhaps by the time they’re available here, I’ll have a backyard to put it in. — Angela M.

You can buy them from Bloomsbury and they’ll ship internationally! They’ve got the rest of the Penguin line, too. I covet the tea-towels.

As an ex-penguin cover designer I think this is a little close to home, but they are graphically interesting! It is a classic clean design!

I realize I’m about ten days late, but… you could DIY something like this without *too* much difficulty. It could be done with fabric paint and stencils, iron-on-transfers, or a combination. I wouldn’t recommend it for a more complicated design, but for the most part you’re looking at blocks of color and simple lettering, with one or two more complicated shapes. You could also silkscreen this, but that seems like it might get more complicated than it’s worth.
