what’s growing in al’s garden?

I spent a few hours weeding last Thursday, and you can see above that I got the boxes cleaned up. I wish I had a picture of what it looked before I started! I think you’d be impressed. There is one lonely blue sage left over from last year. I raised the soil after weeding and tilling. There is no logic to my madness and this spills over to my gardening. Green thumb? I like to say, yes!

I decided first to plant beet seeds. We eat a lot of roasted beets in the country. The other day, I mixed some with Jicama and it was delicious. Last year I grew chard, blue sage and arugula. The arugula was divine, I was pleased with the dividends. The chard I never got a handle on…. The year before that my corn crop was a masterpiece. For this season, along with the beets, I’ve eggplant on my mind. I am gearing up to take a stab Eggplant Lasagna; if the crop rises this will encourage me.

My herb of choice this season is German chamomile. There are fields of it in Ireland on the West coast. I thought I would bring memories of my trips there to my garden.

Here’s where things get tricky. I planted cantaloupe seeds. Hmmm. I don’t even like cantaloupe. This one I can’t say I feel very confident about.

Now let’s hope the chipmunks don’t do me in…. I didn’t have time to put my fencing up. My Aunt is going to keep an eye on things. I should be able to get up there to see how I’m doing sometime in the next few weeks. Keep your fingers crossed! What’s growing in your garden this summer? Let us know.
