Thanks for the new mail-order suggestions! And Sarah, I've heard so many good things about Zingerman's—I'm all over it.

This is the polar opposite of bagels, but if you're a displaced Texan (or any self-respecting meat lover for that matter), http://www.kreuzmarket.com/index.shtml is a must. If I ever move too far away to visit this palce, I'll definitely mail order it, and I've even considered shipping some to a Brit/Texan friend in London.

Fantastic news! Though my morning walk was in the West Village from my apartment to Murays on 6th Ave and 13th Street - I clearly miss both the morning walk and the arrival home with my bag of warm perfection. To be able to order from H&H is, as I said, fantastic. I had been relying on a 45 minute drive to Great Barrington for suitable bagels - but now those of us NYC transplants in Northwest Connecticut (and there are many) can at least enjoy the bag of perfection if not the morning ritual walk. Thanks for letting us know.

Hmm, how about Junior's cheesecake? I live in NYC, so I've never mail ordered it for myself. But we sent it to the in-laws for Christmas one year and they raved for months. If I didn't live here it would be an annual must, maybe for my birthday.

OMG I never knew they delivered like that. I so, so, so miss H&H. I have yet to find a bagel to match theirs. I was so addicted that when I moved to upstate NY we had a dear friend who worked in the city and came home for weekends and he would bring us two dozen every week. OMG I so miss it.
Thank you so much.

Oh, I wish I didn't know about this! I miss NYC food, too, and especially those delicious bagels. When I lived in Tacoma, WA, I became addicted to frango mint chocolates. I just recently discovered that you can buy them online, but I haven't ordered any yet (I am trying to be good): http://www.fields.com/common/fl_frango.jsp. Too much temptation!

IMO, the absolute best food mail order site/catalog is Zingermans, www.zingermans.com. Their product selection is broooooooard (baked goods, artisianal cheeses, oils, vinegars, and spices...)and everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) I've ever ordered from them is to die for. Their corned beef and pastrami are truly the best I've ever had and yes, I've lived and eaten in NYC. The corned beef from Ann Arbor still wins. If you're wanting to pamper yourself or someone else, save your pennies up to place and order from Zingermans. You won't regret it.
