blogwatch:summertime cravings

Thank goodness I live in NYC. Otherwise, I might not have been able to sate the intense craving created after clicking over to happy mundane earlier today. There, Jon’s lovely photo (above) of Mochi green tea ice cream bonbons gave me such a hankering, I couldn’t wait to stop by the Japanese deli on my way from work. Ah, the joys of having a Japanese deli down the street. For those of you who have never savored such yumminess, let me explain: it’s little balls of ice cream wrapped in a sweet bean cake layer that’s dusted in powdered sugar. Variations of it are served at fancy restaurants, like Nobu, but you can also find them here. Here are a few other treats to make you drool: Whole wheat Mexican wedding cake at 101cookbooks.com. Orange brioches from Delicious Days. Green tea cat tongues (basically they’re little Madeleine-like cookies) from chocolateandzucchini.com. — Angela M.

They also carry these at Trader Joe’s.
I second the Trader Joes! and the ones in the photo (green tea flavor) are my favorite – but you really can’t go wrong with any of the flavors.
jum. jum
oh, and they have it at trader joe’s too.
What Japanese stores can these be purchased at in NYC…?
Hi Donna.. Where do you live? The deli I went to is on Bway btwn 110 & 111, west side of street. I think you can also find them at the Asian food mart on 9th street btwn 3rd and 2nd ave… it’s on the second floor, next to that bar Angel Share… does any of that make sense?
