site we're psyched about: reprodepotfabrics.com

Sewers take note: If you haven’t stumbled upon this online fabric shop already, it’s time you did. The ladies behind the new St. Paul Craft Mafia turned me on to Reprodepot Fabrics, which stocks dozens of dazzling textiles in vintage and retro themes. I’m looking for unique baby bedding ideas, and the sock monkey motifs (above left) slay me. What are your go-to crafting sources? —Megan K.

This site is the best!! If my fabric trunk weren’t already bursting with unmade projects, I would be buying from them at least once a week. Probably not up to a huge upholstery project, but there is something here for everyone, and the patters are always changing. Bravo, retro!
When I was looking for fabric for my baby’s room, I fell in love with Michael Miller. I ended up using Playpals http://www.virginiaquilter.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.exe/online-store/scstore/p-MM5128.html?L+scstore+tdrn6397ff915f91+1155120816 for the bumper and brown cord for the skirt – cute yet masculine for a boy. I also love “tot toys” and “Chinese New Year”
My mom swears by FabricAttic.com. I guess the lady that runs it is a real sweetie.
Check out Cia’s Palette, http://www.ciaspalette.com/ for some great fabrics.
Well, I personally swear by Crafty Planet for my fabric selection. After all, they’rer saving the planet one stitch at a time.
And on the topic of cool baby bedding, I was VERY happy with the selection at http://www.hazelandmelvin.com. You can buy off the line, or work with the designer to get your custom needs fulfilled – it’s great!
I second the mention of Crafty Planet! Their fabric selection is awesome and they are super friendly! http://www.craftyplanet.com. (I notice they are a St. Paul Craft Mafia member too!)
Yes, Crafty Planet is amazing!
The thing about Repro Depot seems to be that they get a lot of attention; stuff seems to sell out pretty quickly there. If there’s something you like, get it while you can, because it seems like there’s a 50/50 chance that it’ll even be there in a week or two, let alone a few months.
I wanted to put in a word for http://www.fabrictales.com – they are a Japanese site that sells Japanese fabrics, both traditional prints on cotton and on chirimen, the silky, bumpy stuff that feels kind of like heavy crepe. Chirimen comes in several types, washable polyester and unwashable rayon, lots of beautiful kimono-appropriate stuff (which can also mean decor-appropriate). The site was founded because the owner says it’s difficult to find “Japanesey” fabrics even within the country, let alone as exports.
The other sites mentioned here are also interesting.
