try this at home: sewing machine table

Roaming around the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market the other weekend I stumbled upon this rod-iron Singer sewing machine table. My very first machine was a Singer from the ’40s, so when I saw this table base I quickly fell in love and ended up walking away with it for $40. I originally thought I would put in my kitchen; I searched for a butcher block cutting board that would work as a table-top, but I couldn’t find one that was the right size. After my move I decided it would work better in my living room. I topped it with a vintage mirror (another flea-market find), and set up a few pictures, a framed piece of art, a plant and some tchotkes. I must say, I think it looks fantastic. The mirror is super-heavy and doesn’t seem to be moving around much but I would like to secure it to the base (just in case.) Any ideas? — Erica P.
