strangely appealing: hand hooks

One of my strongest childhood memories is going to the House of Frankenstein Wax museum in Niagara Falls. I became paralyzed with fear as soon as I opened the door to the spooky funhouse and saw a row of disembodied hands coming out of the stairway wall. I think that’s why I’m oddly attracted to these hand hooks from designer Harry Allen at Generate, $79 each. They’re cast of the designer’s hands and claim to work as coat hooks, change holders, soap dishes, you name it. I think a wet towel could be appropriate. What do you think: Too creepy to be cool? — Angela M.

Way too creepy. But I’d love to install it in someone else’s house (or office) when they’re not there.
Those would be incredibly cool at a Halloween party.
a little creepy…..have you seen these: http://www.pregnancystore.com/zaky.htm
i wouldn’t buy them, but i wouldn’t mind making casts of select hands. don’t tell anyone, but i have a bit of a hand fetish.
It reminds me a little of Cocteau’s “Beauty and the Beast”, of course.
When I was a kid in the 80s, there was a slightly avant-garde/arty gift shop called The Shoppe in the Cleveland suburb where I lived. They sold hand hooks, in a more upright “c’mere” shape, but those were smooth glossy white ceramic and more stylized.
Eeek. Can you say Addams family?
