When I was a kid in the 80s, there was a slightly avant-garde/arty gift shop called The Shoppe in the Cleveland suburb where I lived. They sold hand hooks, in a more upright "c'mere" shape, but those were smooth glossy white ceramic and more stylized. It reminds me a little of Cocteau’s “Beauty and the Beast”, of course.
