If like us you’ve been droolin’ over the thought of Thanksgiving dinner for weeks (especially after seeing images like this one from Williams-Sonoma), you no doubt have a favorite recipe, dish or tradition that makes the holiday the best one of year. Tell us about your favorite part of Thursday’s feast, and we’ll remember to give thanks for having so many superrific readers. Have a wonderful holiday!

(P.S. In case you missed it, check out our real life kitchen post on how to make Thanksgiving dinner in one hour, with some advice from Domino magazine.)

We will be hosting for the sixth year in a row, and the best part of the day is how my apartment feels so festive. I love having family and friends over with a turkey baking, glasses of wine all around, music and the parade on while catching up with people that we don’t get to see nearly as often as we’d like to. It also forces me to really clean my apartment, which is a good thing!

Of the meal itself, my favorite is the stuffing. Especially the kind my husband makes that is a very tasty, complicated Martha Stewart recipe involving sausage. Yum!

a) the automatic reprieve from all dieting
b) the chance to sit with my happily chewing–and therefore silent–family

Thanksgiving is also my parents wedding anniversary this year, so we’re planning a big party for them. Should be fun. I will spend an entire day making my annual pumpkin cheesecake with sour cream topping. Two thousand calories a slice!

I love making turkey soup the next day with the leftovers! I will make a big batch, then freeze it and be happily reminded of the holiday all winter long. Here’s a quick how-to: Simmer bones and all that’s left in the bird in a pot of water (start off cold) for an hour and half. Add chopped veggies, like an anise bulb, onion, celery, green beans, whatever floats your boat. Also, a small can of chopped tomatoes. Cook for another half hour, skimming off the top if it looks fatty. Drain the veggies from the broth, let them cool down a bit and put them in the food processor. Chop ‘em down real small and then add back to broth. Put in macaroni — I use orzo — and turn up the heat a bit (if it’s too low it will get starchy). Add a little chicken broth if you’d like it be more soupy. Serve with a sprinkle of parmesan cheese on top. In February you’ll be so glad you did this!

It’s a toss-up. Thanksgiving meal is my favorite eating experience of the whole year. Not only do I truly love every item on the table (I do all the cooking in my family so I have some push on what makes the menu), but I love the excuse it gives me to sit around the table for hours with the people I care about most. That, and the leftover turkey, cranberrry sauce and stuffing sandwhiches for lunch on Friday.

I stole a tradition from my ex-boyfriend’s family. About an hour before the meal, everyone takes a little slip of paper and writes down a thing (or several things) for which they are greatful. These slips are rolled up inside of crescent rolls (homemade if you’re fancy, from the refrigerator case if you’re not) and baked. When it comes time to break bread, everyone splits open their crescent roll and reads the little thankful-strip inside. It’s a really simple, really nice thing to do. Just don’t use a felt tipped pen — the ink will bleed and it’ll be hard to read!

Though I love the crescent rolls, my favorite thing to eat has to be stuffing. OH STUFFING, HOW I LOVE THEE. I’ve been known to make an 8×8 dish of stuffing for dinner just to eat by myself.
