Ok, all you procrastinators, not done with your holiday shopping yet? Our favorite last minute, fail-safe gifts are always books. Here’s our picks for this season, any one of which we would be thrilled to receive!

Marcel Dzama, the Course of Human History, $70 at Curiosity Shoppe. From one of our favorite artists, includes a nearly 6-ft long reproduction of one of his paintings.

Jamie’s Italy, $23. We are already addicted to Jamie’s Dinners, so we can’t wait to get this one!

Southern Cookbook: Stories and Recipes for Southerners and Would-Be Southerners, $23 by the Lee Brothers. We always rip-and-save their stories from The New York Times, MSL and other mags.

The Architecture of Happiness by Alain de Botton, $17. A romantic look at buildings and architecture, soon to be a PBS series.

Joy of Cooking, 75th Anniversary Edition, $18. No household should be without, and this new edition makes it hard to resist.

Stuff on my Cat Daily calendar, $10. A chuckle a day, provided by the popular blog.

Worldchanging: A User’s Guide for the 21st Century $25 by Alex Steffan, Al Gore and Bruce Sterling. Beautiful, informative and inspiring!

Antiques of the Future by Lisa S. Roberts & Michael Graves, $21. How many of these collectibles do you own already?

The best new cookbook, BAR NONE, is “The Kitchen Diaries” by Nigel Slater, the cookery columnist of The Observer (London). Amazing book, a day by day account of what he makes and eats and why. Brilliant recipes, utterly foolproof, very comfort-level (the vegetarian lasagna, rich with onions and portobello and porcini mushrooms, has now become a regular Sunday-night feature in my family).
