blogwatch: poking around yahoo! answers

Blogwatch went on a little detour this week after I discovered a new distraction: Yahoo Answers. Essentially it’s a mega bulletin board where anyone and everyone is encouraged to “ask the world” questions that may be lingering in their heads. Subjects range from dieting, to computer advice to the truly bizarre. In the list of topic categories you’ll find a Home & Garden listing, which is more or less filled with earnest queries, like Home remedy for cleaning a broiler pan?! and Have you noticed how every home improvement show has de-evolved into installing a kitchen island? But click through enough and they do start to get silly: Do you know who broke into our house? Venture over to some of the other subject areas and brace yourself for a high-speed shuttle into our nation’s cultural zeitgeist (though in the evening a lot of them sound like kids working on homework). A random sampling (cause that’s what it’s all about):

Is it okay for my brother to be afraid of Bandaids? Why is my belly button piercing yellow? Does Coca Cola really remove toilet stains? Was anyone surprised that childbirth wasn’t as bad as they thought? Who knows a good guitar song I can play for my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day?

Click on over and check ‘em out. You have to have a (free) Yahoo account to play along, and there is a point system you accumulate for answering and asking questions. But please, when you have a Shelterrific related question, ask us here. We promise you’ll get a much more thoughtful response! — Angela M.

i read the “home remedy for cleaning a broiler pan” + i have a better one.
the remedy was to heat up the pan so you can more easily scrub the gook off,
but if you sprinkle baking soda on the black caked on stuff, then pour vinegar or lemon juice on + leave it overnight, it will dissolve the crud.
i’m going to post that on my blog too. i LOVE baking soda!

Yahoo! Answers now is like a game for many people. I’m a admin at OnHelp – http://onhelp.org – which is a realtime snapshot of Yahoo! Answers submissions, answers, votes, and comments using Yahoo! Answers api. Users can play Yahoo! Answers with it.
