make trees not war

We usually don’t discuss politics here at Shelterrific, but as our President plans to send 20,000 more troops into Iraq (and with Chad recently returning from a photo assignment in Afghanistan) our current situation in the Middle East is very much on our minds. Surfing around the other night we stumbled upon Plant the Piece by Christopher Humes, a Richmond, VA-based artist. A gun shaped out of red clay powder, dry organic humus compost and a mixture of wildflower seeds (customized to customer’s area), it’s a creative way to give back to your community (or backyard). Perhaps we should organize a mass mailing of them to the White House, as a reminder on what our government should be spending billions to fix (i.e. the environment). You can order by clicking here. $75 for the gun, $12 for a pack of seed bombs.

Very cool! I love making seed bombs but haven’t ventured beyond the basic ball shape. Maybe hearts?

Thanks for the nice mention of our work!
To clarify Plant The Piece is actually a collaboration between Christopher Humes and myself, Noah Scalin.
