fantasy decorating: would conran's orange dresser fit in your home?

shelter_orangedress.jpg

We’ve just been distracted from our daily routines by this bright, rococo-style dresser popping out at New York magazine’s Best Bets daily. It would take an adventurous (and monied) home decorator to plunk down $4850 for Conran’s Poldo Como high-gloss piece. But we want to know: If money were no object, would you take this home? It’d look amazing in a white room with a few other color touches here and there. But would it get old fast? Whaddya think?

I love this. I think it could definitely work and with that glossy finish it would always look fresh.

Not in orange, but maybe black or red. There is a possibility I might go for hot pink. But I’d probably buy a used car instead.

i love it! but i do think it might get ‘old’ in terms of its colour… matchness with other colour schemes… and no one wants to repaint a gem! :) hmmm.. perhaps one could replace it around the home every once a while!

I think you would get tired of the color. Black or white, yes, perhaps red or even a yellow. But the orange would get old. You could probably come up with something similar to this, but probably not as ornate, at a tag sale, etc., and paint it orange yourself. That way if you got sick of it, you could repaint it or get rid of it and not be out almost 5K.

No No No!!!!

I love it! (Of course, given my blog name!) But maybe I wouldn’t love it forever. I’m so fickle. I like Kim’s suggestion. Lower the stakes.

Love it – I’ve been looking to bring in some old world charm as everywhere I look it’s modern. But that pricepoint is DWRish

no, because I do not have the proper white loft to put it in. It would blend in with all my real junk though.

Orange has been trendy the last few years… it was kind of funny a year or so ago, when Apartment Therapy did (IIRC) a color contest, and the majority of living rooms entered in it seemed to have an “orange accent wall” – a lot of people I know do, too.

I like this but I don’t know if I’d get sick of the orange. I also lean towards “it might be better in black or red,” but I could see myself getting sick of both of those, too. I think in the right space, this would be a very happy piece.

Heavens only know I would never get tired of looking at a fantastic orange rococo furniture. Never never never! I’d probably get tired of it, in terms of having it for LONG periods of time and in the same context. But not of its color. I hate black or red.

So purty!

Love It – Better yet, buy a used piece off craiglist for 50 bucks, sand, paint and voila! High fashion style that doesn’t break the bank!
