pretty painted floors at cottage living’s site

Here’s a little decor inspiration for a dreary winter’s day: Cottage Living’s painted floor gallery. It’s like taking a little vacation at your desktop — doesn’t that white bathroom look amazingly inviting? Though the mag says that painted floors are very “cottage,” we have a few friends who have painted floors in their urban pads, too — including a chartreuse one in a Tribeca Loft. Painting a floor is not as hard as you would think, though it does require some dedication, and willingness to freshen it up every year or so. (Unless you like the distressed look, see previous post on Allison’s needlepoint for an example!) Check out Cottage Living’s how-to’s here, or for a more detailed project description, go to This Old House’s site.

I have dark wood floors in my bedroom. They’re really old, narrow slats. I always thought they would look so nice if I could paint them pale green.
But what to do with the bed??

Why, sleep in the dining room, of course (that’s what we did). Assuming you have the space. We painted some floors in our house and the results look great, if I may say so myself.
A walk-in closet, for example:

Believe me, compared to how atrocious the floors looked previously, it’s much better.

I absolutely love painted wood floors. I think it adds so much charm and character.
