happy chinese new year! oink oink

Yesterday was the first day of The Year of the Pig. We weren’t able to make the annual parade in Chinatown, but that doesn’t mean we can’t order in some General Tso’s chicken and have a party! The celebrating goes on ’til Saturday, so there’s still time! We stopped by our favorite party supply site, Plum Party, for a few quick ideas: The Fortune Shaker $34, with 38 numbered sticks, is a great ice breaker. Send out these cute Take Out invitations, $22, for set of eight. With a few of these battery-operated light up lanterns, $3.50, you can have your own private parade. Wanna cook something up yourself? Try Bunny’s Pork Dumplings. Easy and very yummy.

Don’t forget all the cool stuff you can get at Pearl River Mart’s site (which is, what, like pearlriver.com?) and at the World Market chain! They have all kinds of pretty silk lanterns and lots of other nifty Asian items (not always specifically “Chinese” - some of the stuff I’d associate with China that they sell is actually from Vietnam, like silk lanterns similar to the one you showed above, but they do sell Chinese decorative kites that have been made by a family company for decades, stuff like that).
