trendspotting with allison: graffiti comes inside

My crib is tagged. I actually love the graffiti on the side of my apartment building (pictured above). I favor that it’s not random vandalism, but that happens too. Needless to say, I am not surprised to see the trend spilling inside. I like this room border (below) from Target, $24, for a cool suburban kid. The contrast is fun!

I saw the graffiti train from the Suck UK guys at the gift show. (It’s not available yet on their site, but will be soon) What a riot! If you’ve ever been tempted to vandalize anything…here’s your opportunity.
And yes, I would buy this lamp from Rare Device for my country house. You can take the girl out of the East Village… — Allison R.

Oh, this is really interesting. Love the lamp. Reminds me of my son, who has binders of books of graffiti pictures (he doesn’t do it, just studies it) and books on graffiti as an art form. At first I was like, what? But, then grew to, if not understand it fully, then appreciate it in some ways. If I’m away somewhere and see it, I’ll take pictures for him. Fun post!

I love the lamp. I’ve actually had an idea for a while to find an old gutted brownstone, invite some gifted taggers in to do the walls that connect to the next door neighbors, and then build the interior around that. Great post!
