start a wee garden

We spotted this inviting garden kit at one of our favorite kids’ stores yesterday and just had to share. It’s Gardenseed Matchbooks from ZebraHall. Each matchbook comes with ten “garden matchsticks.” You tear them out, and plant the tip in the ground (or a ‘lil pot of soil by your window). Water a bit and wait a couple of weeks and soon you’ll have a garden sprouting. Choose either the Herb Garden (Basil, Chives, Parsley, and Thyme) — or the the Wildflower Garden (Cornflower, Shasta Daisy, Corn Marigold, and Field Poppy). Wouldn’t this be a cute to slip inside a birthday card? Only $5 each at ZebraHall.

Ok, I did this about 4 weeks ago (plunged them into the dirt on my window sill). Nothing yet. I’ll keep you posted. I used the wildflower matchbook.

Fantastic. I’ve always loved herb gardens and this is a great way to get kids involved with a little gardening project. These would make a great gift as you said or party favor for kids.
