My house is currently such an unholy disaster that, yes, spring cleaning will soon commence. But it's not particularly spring cleaning so much as "trying to make the house less messy." If it were this messy in September we'd have to try then, too. We are well stocked with Method supplies, as well as our Swiffer Wet-Jet loaded with antibacterial cleaning fluid and a bunch of other stuff. I'm angling for a pair of those Casabella gloves that are structured so that water can't get down inside the glove when it runs up your arm. We are aiming for more and more eco-friendly supplies; we just started using Seventh Generation lavender dish soap, and like it. But we haven't replaced the Wet Jet yet, because we still have so many supplies for it!

I'm also planning to get rid of probably about 1/3 or so of my remaining belongings; I've already gotten rid of a lot in the last few years, but every day I come across more and more things that I know I just don't need and that no longer reflect my current interests. That's more decluttering than cleaning. It pays to be careful with it, though, because I have found that sometimes I get rid of something that I'm not into at a particular time, and then my interests circle around and I wish I still had it. Certain items of jewelry I've sold on ebay, for instance.

There's a new book called "A Perfect Mess" that does justify some messiness in systems; however, it does not justify dust bunnies and sofas covered with dog hair. Alas.

I autumn (fall) clean. It's too damn hot in the summer to do more than the bare minimum when it comes to cleaning. So, when the weather starts to cool down, I get an urge to make an effort and before you know it, I've cleaned & dusted & the place looks great (for about a week).

Spring makes me want to clean windows, get rid of furniture and detritus that block sunlight from reaching all the corners, and er...throw away about 90% of my boyfriend's possessions.

I think I'll be settling for clean windows.

Spring cleaning is a must for me. I just have this feeling of freshness when the weather gets warm and wish my apartment reflected that. I feel good sweeping the stuffiness out of my hall, freecycling items I no longer use, cleaning windows to see the chirping birds. It feels just so damn good. Now try and tell me to clean in January and I'll politely say fuck off. I don't know what it is!

I think I'm extra thorough when it comes to Spring cleaning vs. any-other-time=of-year cleaning. I just spent the entire day spring cleaning Sat. I plan to wash the curtains this week. Something about Spring makes me want to sweep away the cobwebs and dustbunnies that have been lurking in the corners all winter. Once the weather starts getting nice, it's like a new beginning and everything comes alive again.

I guess I'm in the midst of spring cleaning, but it's not because of spring per se. It's much more a combination of a) my apartment had become a disaster area, and b) I'm hosting friends from out of town in a couple of weeks and I can't let them see the place in its "normal" state.
