blogwatch: new peeps in the flock

A few new blogs have hatched this week, allowing us to make silly puns left and right! First off, a new entry into the growing kids’-style-for-cool parents category: Robert Maher from Maher Dry Goods has launched Junior Society, a blog that provides “merit” badges on things such as “Arts & Crafts, Cleanliness, Education, the Great Outdoors, Literacy, Playthings and Travel among many others.” We absolutely adore this post about silhouette artistry, which has been around since the 19th century but is tres trendy these days. The post covers everything from artist Kara Walker, who takes the form to new heights her politically themed room-sized installations, to adorable kids’ room decor. Check it out!

Another new blog this week comes from Shelterrific contributor Kim B. and it’s called Decorazzi. We already knew that Kim had a great eye from All That And A, and this proves it more…. Apartment Therapy pointed us to a new blog from the folks at Patagonia that is very impressive. Cleverly named The Cleanstine, it’s all about the company’s noteworthy eco-works…. Speaking of which, be sure to check out Treehugger’s Earthday Guide.

And finally, we loved the selection of Easter-themed things tagged at ThisNext, like these A-Dozen-Egg-Vases. Wouldn’t they be great place-holders at a dinner party? Also, on ThisNext, we found this post about our favorite Easter treat, Peeps. Admittedly, we like the way they look more than they taste, which is a good thing afterreading about their calorie count on FitSugar. But if you’ve ever wondered where they came from (no, not the eggs above) then check out the official site’s factory tour. Magic!

I have an online friend who launched something called Art Scouts a while ago, but that allows *you* to earn merit badges in various artistic disciplines! http://www.moderngypsy.com/artscouts/

There’s a great feature on Kara Elizabeth Walker in the first two seasons of the Art:21 series that was on PBS a few years ago.
