real life test kitchen: easy tiramisu
I bought a copy of Everyday Food’s Great Food Fast a few weeks ago and love it. It’s filled with gorgeous photos, and recipes are wisely divided by season to help you decide what to cook. Though lately it seems like we’re in between seasons, I opted to try out a dessert recipe from Winter: Easy Tiramisu, in honor of The Sopranos premiere on Sunday! Now, I’ve made Tiramisu before, and it is NOT easy. It involves lots of eggs that need to be whisked and whisked and whisked. Everyday Food’s has no eggs at all! It’s just cream cheese blended with sugar and cream, layered over espresso-soaked Ladyfinger cookies. That’s it! Finding Ladyfingers (light, airy sponge cookies) took a bit of work but luckily there’s an Italian deli down the road that had them. The harder ingredient to find was instant espresso powder. It’s exactly what it sounds like — strong coffee crystals that you hot add water to. After checking in a few stores, I finally found a jar of Ferrara’s. After letting the dish chill for a few hours, the results were yummy (Chad loved it) though a bit dry. I think adding in some coffee-flavored liquor would have been a nice touch. We forgot to sprinkle cocoa on top for the photo, but it does add a nice layer of flavor before serving. Click here for the recipe at Everyday Food’s site. — Angela M.
(Okay, now for some more serious talk. What did you think of The Sopranos premiere? Tense, huh? Didn’t you love Janice & Bobby’s lake house?)

I am so so so glad to hear you liked this book! I’ve been subscribing to this magazine for a couple of years and have been ripping out the recipes that sound good to me and taping them into little notebooks. So of course I was interested in this book, and I absolutely love the idea of seasonal organization. Thanks for the review!
