isn't it amazing what you can do with upholstery?

The May issue of Metropolitan Home is their annual Design 100 issue, which shows off the editors’ picks of what’s best in the design world — ranging from eco smart lightbulbs (the Nine-Watt LED Bulb) to cutting edge design firms (cinqcinqdesigners.com). But the page that really stopped our fingers in their tracks features this gorgeous Cradle Wing chair by Laura Kirar for Baker Furniture. Yes, its lines are lovely, its framing sleek and sturdy — but look at that fabric! MetHome’s design and architecture director, Linda O’Keefe (recently a guest judge on Top Design) kitted out the chair using seven different mod fabrics. Don’t you love those Paul Smith stripes on the chair back and piping? Check out the issue to see more details!

haha – that gorgeous one-of-a-kind chair is in my Brooklyn living room right this minute! i won it last week in a raffle to benefit Housing Works at Metropolitan Home’s Design 100 party at the Four Seasons, and couldn’t be more delighted. Yes, it pays to be eclectic — just in case one wins a multi-colored, modern/traditional wing chair in a raffle!

No way! You won the chair! That’s so exciting! I couldn’t make it to the party and was so bummed. Send in a photo of it your LR? Lets see what it looks like in a Shelterrific home!

I saw a vaguely similar, nowhere-near-as-sexy chair in the window of the local Anthropologie tonight. It was covered in a mixture of batik fabric… no pattern, just the kind that looks like a color wash with some dark-colored crinkles in it. Different colors on different parts of the chair like the one above: pale pink, blue, and gold, at least. It was pretty cool-looking, and I was plotting how to do something similar on some future chair, perhaps in a fabric less associated with hippies.

They also have some incredibly cute kitchen towels right now. I’m torn between “$15-20 is a bit much to pay for a towel that’s just going to get food stains all over it,” and “You know, other towels I’ve seen like that cost at least $50.” I particularly like the hot pink one with a jacquard weave of an Eiffel Tower scene.
