A couple of weeks ago I was getting a pedicure, and among the dog-earred gossip and fashion mags at the salon, I found a Cottage Living magazine. It’s not a shelter magazine I normally read, though whenever I do I am surprised by how pretty and useful it is. In the May/June issue there is story about a little cottage reno in Houston, TX. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it, so I went out and bought the issue, and logged on to view the “digital issue” just so I could share the loveliness with you. Above you see a few photos from the story, which explains how how Rene and Brett took a 920 sq ft cottage and managed to make every inch work. It truly is inspiring. I love the mix of modern furniture and the airy open space. If you want to see more, pick up an issue. The smart folks over at DesignPublic are a fans, too. — Angela M.

I loved this house so much, I ripped out that picture of their warm yet airy living/dining room for my inspiration file. Isn’t it awesome?

A few months ago, I decided to subscribe to Cottage Living. It wasn’t a magazine I ever thought I would read. While some of the style choices are not completely in sync with my own, I have been pleasantly suprised about how useful it has been from a ’small space’ perspective. I also enjoy features they do about urban revival projects in smaller communities around the country. I’ve become a fan.

As a bungalow liver (wait, that sounds weird), I really like their philosophy of living smaller – why do so many of us feel that we need to move to a bigger house? I agree with Jennifer – they aren’t always so in sync with my particular style, but I really appreciate what they are about. This particualr article was genius!

Beautiful images and also very inspiring… I love that cozy, warm ambience that comes from living in smaller quarters. There is a sense of spirit, soul, and self (not to mention creativity) that comes with “living small”. Lovely post…

Everytime I randomly pick up an issue of Cottage Living…I love it. My house is a very tall greek revival, but the rooms are small (it was built circa1839) so it’s cottage-ee inside. OK, that settles it. I’m going to subscribe! LOL

I absolutely adore Cottage Living; it’s one of my favorite decor magazines around. Sure, sometimes they feature a house with too much floral, but overall, most of the feature articles are great for people who are living in smaller spaces.
