our favorite japanese ice-cream becomes a fad

shelter_mochi.jpg

Last summer, we raved about these Mochi ice cream bonbons, one of our favorite summertime treats. And we were tickled to see them featured in the Times Sunday Style magazine this past weekend. We learned a few new things about Mochi, the gluntinous rice dough that surrounds the frozen treat. According to the mag, “It’s been eaten by Japanese noblemen for centuries; it contains phytins, which are thought to prevent cancer; and it’s said to be impervious to the Heimlich maneuver.” ‘Nough said! We’re stocking up today. Available at: Whole Foods, the frozen-yogurt chain Pinkberry, and Asian groceries. Click here to see more!

P.S. Jon at Happy Mundane was the orginal trendsetter, setting off our craving with this photo.
