form + function: ikea statist

I freely admit it: I hate jewelry boxes. I’m one of those people who needs to see it all spread out before me, and then make my accessory choice. This posed a bit of a problem as I tended to spread my jewelry out all over the bathroom counter (and led to lost earrings more than once). I may have found a solution with this Statist tree from IKEA. It’s crazy cheap — just $4.99! — and comes in several cute colors. The base is a little wider than I’d like, but it fits fine in my closet organizer, and the only thing I haven’t figured out how to hang on it is post earrings. I’ve already spotted it displaying necklaces at Fancy Pants, one of my favorite local stores, so it must be cool! - Mary T.

I bought TWO of the yellow tree thingees a few weeks ago. I am displaying the non-Christmassy ornaments that I love on them as well as crystals and beaded tassles. They are totally fun!

According to the IKEA site, it’s $4.99. Did they raise the price?

Could you stick your post earrings through a ribbon (like the red white and blue one hanging on the tree) and then hang the ribbon on the tree?

Easy. Go to a craft store and buy a piece of plastic canvas - you can even buy them in some shapes - square and circles. Poke post earrings through there and put back on.

Another good option is getting wooden rack posts (like for hats or purses - they’re flat on the back and have knobs on the front) at your local craft store (I got mine at Hobby Lobby for less than $5). I painted mine and put them up over my dressing mirror. I hang all my bracelets and necklaces along them, and they hang so prettily over my mirror.

i have nothing useful to contribute other than: I LOVE FANCY! and schmancy and nancy! that whole strip of second is like a black hole for my bank account, between fancy, schmancy, nancy, ian and great jones home, i might as well declare bankruptcy now.

Ha! Alithea, I just bought a pair of earrings at Fancy that I had coveted since October. I figure that if I still wanted them after all that time, it was worth it.

You’re right; it is actually 4.99 (still mega cheap). I will update this entry.

I use vintage buttons to hold my post earrings (one button per pair), then lay them in a leaf shaped tray/plate. Very decorative and useful.
