I put warm/hot water and detergent such as mr clean. Make use of a cloth or soft brush wash them down then hang them outside in the sun to dry. If you have a deck by means of railing, drape them over, or just lay them down beyond. I of course don't have pictures right now but this gives me the motivation to make a tutorial and blog about it. I left up the hardware on the wall and removed all the vertical blind pieces. There are these nifty little clip things up there and a medium sized grommet clips into it really nicely. I found some fabric, hemmed up the edges and then spaced out the grommets so that they would be evenly spaced when the curtain is closed. Once I installed the curtain I had to hide the top part. I made a valance curtain from the same material and put up a nice long rod. It provides privacy and looks great. I'll try and put some photos up or something. =) Hope that helps.
