five things we learned last week

bright ideas from your comments

1. For a green wedding toss, Paula recommends little hearts made from of rice and tapioca flour. “They were very cute and much more elegant than rice. We wrapped them in tulle and put them in a basket with a cute card that read ‘animal friendly and biodegradable – no animals will be harmed during the enjoyment of this fine tradition’. When the event was over and clean-up was wrapping up, little animals came out and nibbled on the hearts – I guess they were good.”

2. Or, try sparklers instead. SarahRae’s writes “We opted to not have anything thrown… and went for giant sparklers instead. The ones that are like 3 feet long… so we let everyone have a sparkler, and even though it was the middle of the day, it was still super fun!”

3. Next time you paint a room, there are plenty of green options out there. Julie recommends Sherwin-Williams’ Harmony: “I used it for two rooms recently and liked it – good application and while it did have a slight odor, after about 24 hours you couldn’t smell ANYTHING. With previous paint jobs, it seemed to take at least 4-5 days (or more) for the strong smell to go away and I used to get a headache when I painted with conventional paints.”

4. Looking for twist on pesto? Swap the basil for Kale. Laura says try “using lightly cooked kale instead of most of the basil (I still use a little basil for the flavor). This was discovered as a result of some very prodigous kale plants gifted to us for our garden. Makes a more earthy pesto and is quite good.

5. Donald Trump should stick to real estate and reality TV shows, and not make any more furniture. As Tasha puts it: “Can you imagine lying in a bad and having to think about his awful awful ‘hair’? A man with that little taste and class has no business doing anything with design, even if he is just tacking his name to it.
