help! where can i find pretty contact paper?
Where can I find pretty contact paper? I need to make closet shelves nicer in an old house. — Kate P.

Hi Kate! Thanks for your email. This question immediately reminded us of a great post over at Design*Sponge. A few months ago, Grace wrote about lining her drawers with leftover wrapping paper (above). If you decide to go that route, all you need is some double-sided tape, and for a shelf, you’ll need to be generous with the sticky stuff on the side that faces out. Contact paper does not, unfortunately, come in as many gorgeous patterns as wrapping paper. But if you want to go that traditional route, there are a few sites to choose from that have a decent selection. Aubuchon Hardware has wide variety. Tuff-Ware online does, too. For a more natural look, check out the Container Store’s goods. We like the latice liners. Does anyone else have shelf-liner suggestions for Kate? Please weigh in!

I used brown kraft paper in my closet. I used silly sesame street wrapping paper in my Fiance’s dresser. It makes him laugh.

I love the idea of using fun wrapping paper - but if you want the “wipability” (yes, I think I just made up a word) of contact paper, you can cover the wrapping paper with clear contact paper. That would do an infinitely better job of holding the paper down than tape would, for that matter.

don’t forget K-Mart - Martha has some nice contact papers in simple designs including stripes in Martha green and faux bois.

I saw some semi-attractive contact paper at, of all places, the Container Store.
