cast iron bed dreams come true

While Chad was up on the roof, I was happily putzing around inside the cottage. In the bedroom, you may remember, I was searching for the perfect cast iron bed. I thought I wanted one like Sarah Jessica Parker’s — which turned out to be from Ikea, and discontinued. Instead, we went for the real deal when this vintage beauty fell into our a laps. A friend moving out of the country sold it to us for a song, and it’s unbeliebably comfy and well made. Before that happened, I was considering buying one from Target.com, but you can’t see them in person, and shipping is very expensive. Then we found this site, American Iron Bedding, which actually makes some of the reproductions at Target but ships them for free. Their styles range from the simple to the highly ornate, but the best is their offerings of authentic antique frames. FYI: The bedding in the photo is from Ikea, and coincidentally matches my Navajo rugs, which needed a home. It will do nicely for now, though I am still craving a boldly accented room like Sarah Jessica’s. — Angela M.

Eh, the SJP room is kind of matchy-matchy. I much prefer the coordinated color scheme with all sorts of influences. Anyone could put together the SJP room, but who else would have gone Southwest-meets-LauraAshley-meets-shabby-chic?! I personally love it.

A true upstate bedroom…flashlight on the nightstand ready to take aim at a wooly creature. LOL

thanks for the kind words Ellobie!… and I-Love, you are too right! Another place you must have a flashlight — in the car’s glove compartment box, so you can find your way to the front door!
