five things we learned last week
Bright ideas we gathered from your comments.

1. We all dream about going to a mega-flea market, and some of you make it a reality. Lucky Sara wrote: I’ve been going [to Brimfield] at least once a year with my favorite mother-in-law for the past five years. Rain or shine, it’s an amazing place to visit and I always end up finding new things that I never even knew I was looking for! Click here to read about the Brimfield Antique Show.
2. When it comes to peach cake, be generous on the vanilla. Says Mary: “I made this cake last week and it was delicious - very moist. I especially loved using fresh peaches. I did use 2 tbsp of vanilla; turned out fine!” Click here for a the recipe.
3. Registering for any reason? Consider a site that allows you to shop a lot of stores at once. Chrissy recommends MyRegistry.com. They allowed me to add gifts from any store I want such as Macys and DesignPublic. I like that you are not limited to just one or two department stores. This site is super cool because you can do so much with it. Most registries that I know of only let you set up a gift list. MyRegistry.com lets you add pictures, personalized notes, and lets you create your very own wedding page which my guests really loved so far. I cant rave enough!!! 4. Walkscore.com is a great resource, like any neighborhood scouting site, but nothing is a subsitute for first hand experience. As DJ pointed out, when scoping out a neighborhood to live in, “You want to make sure you see the area in person first, though. My address scores high on Walk Score, but although there are technically shops near my home, the walk itself would be dreadful. And the shops aren’t very accessible to pedestrians, as they are located in strip malls on a very busy roadway. Everything is geared for arrival via automobile, not the Ten Toe Transit. Read more about walkscore.com here.
4. When decorating a rustic space like a barn for a party, keep it simple. Cory Ann Ellis, a professional wedding photographer, left this comment: “I think that selecting a location like that barn means you probably like the barn and the beauty of the raw wood. If I were doing it I would not do very much draping of fabric. Let the raw wood show through, don’t distract from it. And draping the fabric will possibly bring the ceiling down and walls in more and while this space is large the ceilings aren’t overly high. Keep it with an open feeling.” Read more about decorating barns here.
