The more you try NOT to cry, the more likely it is you WILL cry*, and you’ll be doing the ugly crying face thing. Let your eyes well up, feel the depth of your emotion, share that with your nearest and dearest. Mostly likely they’ll be doing it, too.

*A little-known fact. I learned this in an acting class. We were discussing muscle memory, and did an exercise where we went through the motions of trying NOT to cry (tensing your mouth, widening eyes or laborious blinking, etc., whatever _you_ do), and it really made a difference–the whole room wasn’t boo-hooing, but most people got teary, and this was without doing any emotional recall stuff–pure physicality. It was crazy.

You’ll probably cry, but you wont’ be the only one. I was surprised how emotional I was doing the ceremony. I had stuffed a tissue down my dress just in case and it made everyone laugh when I pulled it out.

If you’re like me, and I was really afraid I’d cry, your knees might do a strange twitch while you are standing at the altar, and you will be so afraid everyone will detect this, you won’t be able to cry after all.
