sneak peek at gwyneth paltrow's daughter's room

Gwyneth Paltrow is showing off her Hamptons house in the new House & Garden and it’s surprisingly formal and regal for an actress whose daughter’s name is Apple and whose husband is a rock star. Though there are a few surprising fun and modern touches here and there, it’s a little uptight for our tastes. Check out Apple’s room with its serious canopy and official monograms. It seems to scream “Princess!” more than “Apple.” The one thing we love: the bright pink step stool. You’ll find another one in a bathroom in lavender which has us thinking it’s a basic wood model that can be painted any color. Any thoughts on where to find?

There’s a really fabulous (and cheap!) step/stool at IKEA (which I can’t find but I know they still carry because I saw it last week!) which is solid wood. We bought one and painted it with a glossy oil-based paint. It has held up very well in our bathroom over the past 4 years! (we did glue it together when we assembled it.

Love that step-stool! Just adorable.

I hate all that pink but agree that the step stool is adorable.

Very nice, but either my monitor is wonky or something is slightly “off” with the pink of the step stool and the pink used in the bedskirt. Is anyone else seeing it that way?

Yeah, I have a feeling this is not what their “real” house looks like. Her husband did not grow up like this and I can’t really see this making him comfortable. Their other home is probably very comfy and somewhat hippie-like.

Interesting. Quite a lot of the hyper-formal look comes from the white furniture (hard to clean) and wallpapered walls (looks like mostly easy to clean styles). The floors seem to be pretty sensible wood, tile or sisal carpet (practical!). Most of the rest stems from the absolutely pristine level of clean needed for a magazine shoot and the matchy matchy floral arrangements.

Take away the flowers, add in the children, and it won’t look anywhere near so formal.

Most of the furniture is a style that’s quite comfortable. It doesn’t look very cozy or welcoming because of the stark whites and strong cool tones in the colors. The pink and white dining room feels more welcoming, since that’s one of the few rooms with any warmth to the palette. If her husband likes the colors, he’ll be pretty comfortable with the house.

The trouble with this post is simple: The daughter’s bedroom may be a bit formal (after all, it was professionally styled and photographed and looks a bit bare to begin with) doesn’t have to be your taste. It’s obviously her taste. I daresay any of our houses put up for public viewing would elicit just as many anti-comments as pro (probably more anti, actually). As long as they’re happy with it, who cares?

Nice way to spend some time in the Hamptons. Love the kitchen.

Take a peek at all the monograms I make…from embellishing candles to cars to walls- we adorn it all! http://www.electrasmonograms.com/ Be well~
