five things we learned last week

Bright ideas we gathered from your comments.

1. Where to find Apple Paltrow-Martin’s colorful stepping stool. Amy kindly points out: “I see them at Target here and there. On sale around $27 as high as $45.” Click here to see the whole room.

2. A piece of Naan bread goes well with pumpkin soup. Kristyn says of our real life test recipe: “I made this last year when you posted it and it was so good. I just made it again recently for a dinner party and it was a huge hit. I served some store bought naan with it. Next time I make it I think I might try adding coconut milk in it instead of the cream.” Click here to see the recipe.

3. Sewing can pose a storage problem. Kim wants to know: “Where do you store your machine when not in use? I don’t have room for a craft room, and I’ve been putting off buying a machine cuz i have no where to put it! What do you do?” Click here to answer Kim’s question.

4. It’s okay to embrace the pink. For a retro fifties bathroom, Whistlerpotpie suggests: “Keep all the pink! It is in great shape and you will be very sad if you replace it with something so bland and current. How about a stunning chandelier installed in the ceiling (art deco would be perfect - try ebay), chrome and glass towel bars and train rack from restoration hardware and a clear glass seamless shower door?” See the blushing bathroom here.

5. When faced with a wall of bland closets, consider wallpaper. Readingglasses says: “One of the most beautiful bedrooms I ever saw with a stark bed like yours had an incredible chinoiserie wallpaper by de Gournay, all flowering trees and delicate blossoms and exotic birds. That’s the sort of paper you need, covering even the closet doors. Very Pauline de Rothschild too. I love the bed, so don’t worry about it being so large; undercut that with a fantastic wallpaper.” Click here to see more bloring-to-blah bedroom suggestions.
