pet furniture that makes you jealous

I know there’s been lots of baby talk here at Shelterrific lately, but that doesn’t mean we’re neglecting our four-legged roomies! Design*Sponge wrote about modern pet furniture company Hepper the other day, and it’s just about the coolest pet site I’ve seen ages. Their slogan is “pet furniture that will make you jealous” and it’s fitting — though I think the way they’ve styled their minimalist felt pods among swan chairs and other enviable pieces really helps. I’m eyeing the the nest, $95 — but would our cat really appreciate a new bed before the new baby arrives? That’s a whole ‘nother post! What I’m really searching for is mod cat litter box — with a cover. Why is no one making those?? — Angela M.

I saw these the other day @ design*sponge also, and while they are definitely sweet, I know my cats always sleep on the couch or my bed, and never the beds I put out for them. (Maybe they’re just waiting for something more stylish?)
Anyway, I’m also hoping to find a modern covered-litterbox alternative; the Kattbank is way out of my price range. I thought about DIY, but I’m not sure where to start.

I think this one is pretty space-age if not mod. http://www.amazon.com/Booda-Clean-Step-Litter-Box/dp/B0002DH8L4 only $35.
Here it is available in another color too at http://www.petco.com/product/11197/Booda-Clean-Step-Litter-Boxes.aspx copper or titanium.

It is just way unfair that the Kattbank is so expensive. How can they be so cruel to those of us looking for exactly that product???
I am always so attracted to these funky pet furniture items but really, my pets love anything that is warm, soft and perhaps even slightly smelly, so I remind myself there are better ways to show them how much I love them.

Ditto re: the Kattank!
I really think that design for cat items is just starting to take off… and I hope the trend continues!

It’s not as fancy as the Kattbank but my sister-in-law cut a hole in the side of her tv stand. She installed a small doggy door flap on the side. The Cabinet has doors on the front so she can just open them up and change the box.
Another friend of mine, had trouble with her dogs getting into the cat box so she put the box in the hall closet and put up a little doggy door leading into it.
