Thanks Lynda.

One of our problems is that the house is old, and some of the treads are uneven, so I think laying a runner would be really hard - probably take more than an hour!

I was wondering if you were concerned at all that because the carpet is woven cotton it might stretch?

Greetings! I too would love to get a Paul Smith rug but these are a wonderful alternative and some of the D&A designs are almost as colorful and swirly. I hired a carpet installer who installed it with a nail/staple gun over the ugly stained beige carpet I had on the stairs. It took them about an hour with most of the time spent on aligning the edges to make the stripes look even.

I also added a mat at the bottom of the stairs that hopefully will pick up all the dirt on our shoes and our cats/dog paws. It's a inexpensive doormat like rug I got from Home Depot. I hope it lasts more than two years but I have carpet cleaner on alert.

Love striped carpets and rugs. My dream is to have one of the Paul Smith rugs at The Rug Company.

Does anyone know how well those cotton rugs wear over time? Dash and Albert also have similar striped wool rugs, and even indoor/outdoor styles. With the amazing amount of traffic stairs get, I'd hate to put up a cotton carpet like that and then have to replace it within a couple of years.

Funny. I was going to post a question to Apartment Therapy about runners (ideally cotton strip) for our cottage stairs. Perfect!

HOW DID YOU DO IT?
