crate & barrel's new studio desk has us drooling

Frequent readers know that we have a weakness for compact, multi-functional pieces of furniture — especially desks. So this new Studio Compact Office really speaks to us. We love its clean lines when closed, hiding space inside for a keyboard or laptop, supply tray, letter-legal file drawer and four fill-as-you-like open compartments. It could be just the ticket for a home in need of a discreet workstation. Buy now and write off on your 2007 taxes? At Crate & Barrel for $500.

So cute. Only thing, no where to put your legs. I like to put them under the desk.
Michele, looks like the keyboard tray pulls out, though that may not be enough room for you. This would make an excellent credenza in a small office, too.
I have this exact desk from the defunct Hold Everything. I had planned to use it as a desk/bar in my loft in NYC. Now that I have more space in Chicago I have a bigger desk. This one is not my style for sitting and working, but I use it for file storage and I put my printer on top.
where do your legs go?
Lovely storage, utterly boring exterior.
Problems, potentially: no room to put your legs, the drawer isn’t quite deep enough for a Macbook Pro at a wider-than-90-degree angle, the exterior, while a nice brown, looks like it will really show scratches. But at first glance, it is nice. It has a nice sense of containment to it. I’ve been working at home for decades (seems like) and I have yet to achieve that kind of tidiness. But thanks for reminding me that I should!
If you live in a small space you probably already know that it doesn’t matter where your legs go. But I guess if this was your only desk that might be a problem. I have an ‘office’ corner in my dining room and I have been lusting after this C&B desk since I saw it in the catalog. I intend to buy it as soon as I convince my hubby how much we really need it in addition to re-modeling our house. Looks like a great place to stash everything you need to have handy, but keep it hidden too.
