new-old furniture: still new, or getting old?

In our recent chair decorating post, Shelterrific reader Dana linked to a lovely bentwood chair in high gloss peony from Brocade Home. It got us thinking about the influx of modern versions of historic designs in the last few years, from the now-classic Louis Ghost chair to the most recent take from French company Acrila: resin furniture that incorporates 2-D images of classic upholstery.
So what’s your take on all this? Getting over it, or can’t get enough of it? -Mary T.

Every time I get a new brocade catalogue I worry for its sustainability. Years later though I still love my Louis Ghosts.
before all the brocade biz made an entire catalogue out of it, it used to be really fun to buy some crusty, brocaded, possibly french provincial or neo neo piece form the thrift store and then, come a sunny day, drag it outside and paint it fuschia or blue. now I don’t know. I think all the new stuff is funny, lovely, and so referential that once you get the ref., it’s kind of over. like a design one-liner. I guess if you’ve $ to burn, it’s fine. otherwise, I still love the old stuff.

Weigh in here. [...]
