new york gift fair: green design grows

Recycled materials and eco-friendly designs abounded at the 2008 New York International Gift Fair. One display noted how sustainable design is the fastest-growing segment of the industry (no surprise). Always one of our favorite exhibitors, Esque Design introduced eco-chic glassworks including Animated Bookends and gorgeous etched Drawn vases made of recycled glass. Roost offered new Nomad tables made of reclaimed bicycle and auto tires, and the ’40s Parisian-inspired Pascal chair, cast from recycled aluminum. Even Umbra remade their iconic waste cans in materials such as corn plastic, which is renewable and compostable. They also introduced the Pulp bulletin board, made of reprocessed paper, and a bamboo Aquala bath caddy complete with book support and wine glass holder. It’s never been easier going green! –Ingrid S.
