domino mag picks best eco bulbs

It seems as if making the switch to eco-friendly bulbs is not as easy as it should be. In our recent Post Off many of you told us that the new green fluorescent bulbs cast such an unattractive glow, you can’t bear to put them in your lamps. Well, cast your reluctance aside and check out Domino’s Test Drive of Eco-Bulbs. Their Stephen Treffinger tried out 65 different bulbs to pick his favorite seven. Click here to see the results and look at energy-saving in a whole new light.

Does anyone have a resource on dimmable CFs? I’ve found one, but at about 16 dollars a bulb, and me needing at least 6 bulbs, well, let’s say I’m looking for a better alternative. Oh, and add to that another 5 dimmable chandelier bulbs. Other than that, I can vouch for the Ikea ones, they’re great.

The GE 3-way ones have pretty decent light now. I’m still annoyed with the whole mercury content thing though. Doesn’t seem very green, especially since they hide the information on the box in teeny tiny type. I have thrown a couple in the trash over the years before I was aware of it.
