five things we learned last week

Bright ideas we gathered from your comments.

1) Forget the clothes. What we really are obsessing over from Sex & the City is the color of Carrie’s walls. Melissa was one of many who weighed in, saying: “While I loved the color of the blue walls, it seemed too much to be used throughout the whole apartment. The space also felt a bit cold and too ‘designed’ and not very homey.” Click here to tell us what you think of the film.

2. Brad Pitt’s $300,000 coffee table would be nice… in plastic. Katya wrote: “I like the idea of a simple plastic posing/pretending to be monumental and marble-like, and actually being an “un-table” (because of the use of negative space). If it were plastic, I’d think it genius. As is, I think its over priced.” Click here to read more about Pitt’s recent purchase.

3. For the most part, we are all adventurous cooks. As Elise says: Meringue, deep frying, pie crust, yeast, candy-making… these do not deter me, because I am an utter glutton for punishment… No, what gets me is ground beef. I can’t do it. I like my steaks rare and my sausage freshly ground, but I’m ridiculously squeamish about frying ground beef. I really don’t know why.” Tell us about your recipe deal-breaker here.

4. Erica’s onion and goat cheese tart is a hit. Susmita wrote: “Looks great! I wonder if it would work with some beaten egg whites, to make it lighter, instead of two whole eggs? I love the addition of the toasted pine nuts.” Click here for the recipe.

5. Some secrets are too good to keep to ourselves. “SSSHHH!!! Oh man, now everyone will be there!,” exclaimed J after we wrote about the DWR Warehouse Sale in Cincinnati. “Well, they do have billboards ALL OVER the city, so I guess this post won’t make it any worse. Please do not judge me, but I am seriously thinking of ditching a hugely important family event to go to this sale.”
