paint-by-number stairwell in country living

We flipped for this story — Updating an Old Stairwell — in the new Country Living magazine. What started out as a fugly wood-paneled, carpeted area was transformed into a groovy space was transformed by a vintage pendant lamp and clever paint strips that lead the eye up towards the stairs’ focal point: A paint-by-number collection that has us drooling. I do love my PbN’s though you have to be careful buying on EBay because quality often doesn’t come through. I don’t mean artistic merit but more like water spots, tears, etc.
PS. I only collected pics with barns in them.

I love this — the photo is cool, too! Looks straight out of the 50s.

I only have one PbN, but I love it. A wonderful gift from a friend… but now I want so many more….

Why would paint-by-number art leave anybody drooling? This is a bit of a cliché by now, no? Didn’t Todd Oldham pioneer this, oh, say, back in the early 1990s?

I don’t care if it’s 50s or 90s or whatever. I love it. There’s usually at least one story in every Country Living that I end up drooling over.
I find a lot of these PbNs in antique stores but they’re usually marked way up. Makes me just want to buy a set and paint my own!
