reader katrina's groovy d.i.y. lampshade

A few months ago you helped Katrina figure out where she could find a lampshade frame to make her own… Well, she just wrote in with the results. Pretty impressive!

I had an old Chinese lantern on my balcony which got weathered to the point of the fabric disintegrating around it. I stripped the fabric and took out the metal frame that held its shape. I was left with a nice looking wood frame in the shape of a hollowed beehive. I glued felt (cut into strips of varying width) and wood tape (aka edging tape, which can be purchased at Home Depot and comes in different colors of wood) around the frame using a hot glue gun. I placed a blue bulb inside for fun and it has been dangling out there for a few months now without getting weathered. — Katrina R.

Nice to read a story of rescue and renewal. Glad that shade is having a pretty new life.
