yard sale find! groovy storage ottoman
Saturday was “Yard Sale Day” in Catskill, which meant half the town hauled their junk out into their front yards while the other half (like me!) drove around in search of some treasured trash. I picked up a few things, but none was a better score than this storage ottoman. It was by the foot of someone’s driveway with a sign that said “free!” Thank you very much, kind neighbor, whomever you are. I had been wanting to find a storage ottoman. I know they’re great for wee ones when they learn how to walk (soft, no sharp corners), but everything I had seen till now was too Pottery Barn. This has just the right mid-Century flair for our NYC pad. And, we can stash some toys in its interior. Any tips on how to clean the fabric without making a mess? — Angela M.

That almost looks like a sewing box to me!

That was free?? Good grief - only in Catskill I guess. You put that ottoman in a flea market in Chelsea and it’d be $100 I bet. I’m jealous.

I agree, Sara. It is exactly like my mom’s old sewing stool. She kept thread and other notions inside, and sat on it at her sewing machine. Even the legs look the same! She uses a different chair now but still has the stool, it’s in her bedroom and she throws clothes on it! Great find!

Angela, my husband and I went to the Catskill town wide sale too. He bought a pitchfork and I got two bent wood ice cream chairs from a free pile in front of someone’s house. The cane is ripped but I’ll probably put plywood and cushions on them (someday). We love all the new cats in Catskill!
