I don’t think the staging would consciously affect my purchasing decisions, but I imagine seeing the items in a more unique setting would make them more desirable to me. I would hate for my home to look like a catalog, so sometimes I stay away from items that scream “Pottery Barn” to me. I haven’t seen the catalog, but I’m guessing that if it shows the PB items mixed with someone’s personal treasures, I would be more likely to visualize them fitting into my home.

Catalog pictures shot in someone’s real home wouldn’t have much impact on whether I buy from that catalog. I figure it’s all staged just so, and whether that’s in a studio or in someone’s home doesn’t make much difference to me. It’s not like someone’s actual home really has all the latest Fall 2008 goodies already in it before the catalog’s released anyway.

I’m curious — which pages from the catalog were staged in her home? From the video it seems like the only thing from PB in Deborah’s house are those two rugs in the living room!
