prints, posters and housewares at flatstock 18

At Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival this weekend, we stopped by the Flatstock 18 poster exhibition. I was only expecting rock-n-roll prints — which you know I like — and was overwhelmed by how many terrific designs are out there. But I was also pleasantly surprised by the artists who were branching out just a little. Far and away my favorite was Wonder-Thunder, whose pillows, placemats, iPhone holders and more were printed with plaintive octopi and suns with overbites. Very fun, very fresh, and all very reasonably priced. Visit the Wonder-Thunder Etsy shop to see more.

Strawberry Luna was another standout, offering limited edition 11 x 13 inch alphabet prints for $15 each alongside funky posters for bands like Band of Horses and Spoon. You can find all of them at Strawberry Luna’s site.

As far as other posters, prints and cards, there were just way too many to count that I liked — a good place to start is the artist listing at the American Poster Institute. I did enjoy My Associate Cornelius quite a bit. And the work of Tara McPherson was getting a lot of buzz. –Mary T.
