is cutting brownies really that difficult?

Here’s a contraption that takes the element of chance out of the task of cutting brownies: Slice Solutions PreCut Brownie Pan (via Outblush). Admittedly, this ice-cube-tray-like tool is pretty clever, though I think the Baker’s Edge pan that NotMartha uses is more appealing (more crusty edges!). But honestly, is cutting brownies that so difficult that you need gadgets to help you? I suppose if you were cranking them out, say for a bake sale or something, it may be handy. But isn’t half the fun of baking brownies licking the knife clean? — Angela M.

In college I had a cheap set of plastic flatware that I used to eat everything. Plastic knives are the secret to cutting brownies – even right out of the oven nothing sticks to the plastic! It’s like magic.

You LICK KNIVES? How very daring.

As I already mentioned to Angela, this looks like a torture device to me! I’m someone who isn’t into the crusty edges myself — give me the interior, gooey brownie! : )

Oooh, Alton Brown would have a heyday with this — he argues that the only unitasking tool in the kitchen should be the fire extinguisher. I agree with him; this looks like a waste of $25.
